Distribution : Symmetric and Skewed

Symmetric and Skewed distribution of Data:

Symmetric Distribution:

• When Mean, Median and Mode are at the same centre values, them we call it is symmetric distribution of data. This is also called Normal distribution.

• Symmetric means, one half of the distribution is the mirror image of the other.
• Symmetric distribution is the easiest distribution to understand the distribution and apply the several statistical technique.

Skewed Distribution:

• In real world, data are not distributed symmetrical. They are skewed in either side of the centre. 
• Skewness is the measure of the distribution of data around the mean.

• Left skewed or Negative skewed:
• Mean is left of Median.
• Mean value is smaller than Median. Or Mode value is greater than Median.

                

Negative Skewed Distribution 

• Right skewed or Positive skewed:
• Mean is right of Median.
• Mean value is greater than Median. Or Mode value is smaller than Median.
